What is the difference between rhetoric and grammar?
All of us, knowingly or unknowingly, use a bit of Rhetoric or the art of pursuasive speaking when we try to express ourselves effectively (ফলপ্রসূভাবে) and beautifully (সুন্দরভাবে), Grammar seeks to teach us how to use a language correctly. Rhetoric seeks to teach us how to use a language more effectively and beautifully. In fact, Rhetoric is a branch of Grammar which primarily teaches us how to use a language more effectively and beautifully apart from teaching how to use correctly. Here is the difference between Grammar and Rhetoric.
In this connection, we may take a special notice to a point the difference between rhetoric and grammar. A Grammar gives us certain rules relating to the form and construction of words, the various structures of sentences, punctuation, specific uses of words etc. Our language cannot be faultless unless we carefully observe those rules. Our language may be free from any grammatical inaccuracy and yet it may not always express our ideas clearly or it may lack in force and beauty. It is Rhetoric which teaches us to remove these defects and lays down the conditions essential to make effective expressions.
